About Weaver

Products & Kernels

What kernel types does Weaver offer?

Weaver produces four core product lines: Butterfly Kernels, Mushroom Kernels, Organic Kernels, and a range of Bulk & Commercial Formats. Within Butterfly, we offer multiple hybrid sizes, including the high-expansion Weaver Gold and Large Kernel Snack varieties. We also develop specialty hybrid recommendations based on application needs.

What is the difference between butterfly and mushroom kernels?

Butterfly kernels pop into an irregular, winged shape. They are light, airy, and high-expansion — ideal for theaters, concessions, stadiums, ready-to-eat brands, and foodservice. The wings maximize surface area for butter and savory seasonings.

Mushroom kernels pop into large, round, ball-shaped pieces. They are extremely durable and built to withstand heat, mixing, tumbling, and heavy coatings. They are the standard choice for caramel corn, chocolate drizzle, gourmet tins, and any coated product where visual uniformity matters.

Many manufacturers use both varieties — butterfly for savory applications, mushroom for coated — to support broader product lines and seasonal SKUs.

What does "high expansion" mean, and why does it matter for my business?

Expansion ratio measures how much volume one kernel produces when popped. Weaver's butterfly hybrids achieve an industry-leading expansion ratio of 45 or higher. A higher ratio means more popped volume per pound of raw kernel, which directly reduces your cost per serving and extends batch run times. For high-volume operations like theaters and concessions, this translates to measurable margin improvements.

Do you offer organic kernels?

It depends on the year. Contact us to discuss organic availability and volume requirements.

Can Weaver recommend the right kernel for my specific product?

Yes. Our team works with partners to match kernel selection to the outcomes your product needs to deliver. The factors we consider include:

  • Application type (savory, coated, ready-to-eat, gourmet)
  • Popping method and equipment
  • Desired texture and visual profile
  • Coating adherence requirements
  • Packaging and shelf life targets
  • Brand consistency and SKU standardization goals

What packaging formats are available?

Weaver offers flexible commercial formats designed to protect moisture integrity, reduce breakage, and maximize shelf life across all distribution scenarios:

  • 35 lb bags
  • 50 lb bags
  • 2,200 lb and 2,500 lb super sacks
  • Full truckloads
  • Export container shipments
  • Tankers, boxcars, and hoppers for ultra-high-volume programs

Whether you operate a single gourmet shop or manage a global CPG supply chain, we have a format that fits your operation.

Ordering & Quotes

How do I request a quote?

Use the quote request form on any product page or the Contact page. Tell us your kernel type, packaging format, estimated annual or monthly volume, and shipping destination. A Weaver representative will follow up to discuss pricing, availability, and program details.

Does Weaver sell retail quantities or direct to consumers?

No. Weaver is a B2B commercial supplier. We serve CPG brands, theaters, gourmet shops, foodservice operators, co-packers, and distributors. All orders are commercial and bulk. If you are looking for consumer retail bags of Weaver-branded popcorn, those are available through retail grocery and mass-market channels.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Minimum order requirements vary by product and format. Gourmet shops and smaller operations can typically start with full pallet quantities (45 bags or more). Larger commercial programs may be structured around pallet, truckload, or container minimums. Contact our team to discuss what fits your current volume and scale.

Can Weaver support private label programs?

Yes. Weaver works with private label and brand owner partners to select and engineer kernels based on the outcomes your brand needs to deliver. We support programs that require consistency across production runs, texture and flavor alignment, specific visual profiles, scalable supply during seasonal demand, and full traceability. Our SQF-certified facilities and identity-preserved sourcing give brand owners the documentation and audit-readiness they need.

Does Weaver offer samples before I commit to a program?

Sample availability depends on product type and your application. Reach out through the quote request form and specify that you are evaluating kernels for a new program. Our team can discuss sampling options and what testing data is available to support your product development process.

Quality & Testing

What quality testing does every batch go through?

Every batch undergoes a full multi-point scientific evaluation before it leaves our facility. Testing covers:

  • Expansion ratio
  • Moisture levels
  • Color consistency
  • Hull content
  • Kernel uniformity
  • Durability and structural integrity

Each lot receives a lot certification before shipment. This documentation is available to support your quality systems and customer audits.

What is Weaver's damage and foreign material standard?

Weaver maintains a strict 3% or lower damage and foreign material (FM) allowance, which is one of the lowest in the industry. This threshold matters because weak or inconsistent kernels affect yield, flavor coating performance, visual quality, shipping integrity, and customer satisfaction. Tighter damage standards mean less waste, better margins, and fewer quality complaints downstream.

Is Weaver SQF certified?

Yes. Weaver operates SQF-certified facilities with robust quality assurance protocols. SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification is a globally recognized food safety management standard. It provides our partners with confidence in our processes and gives brand owners the audit-ready documentation their retail and foodservice customers require.

How does Weaver ensure consistency batch to batch?

Consistency starts in the field. Weaver's hybrid development program engineers kernels for predictable performance across expansion, texture, color, and durability. After harvest, kernels go through harvest timing controls, post-harvest conditioning, and a full cleaning and sorting process that includes air classification, density separation, color sorting, debris removal, and size grading. Every step removes variability before product ships.

Can I get lot-level traceability documentation?

Yes. Weaver uses CropTrak for full field-to-buyer traceability. This platform documents each crop from field to delivery to buyer records, centralizing planting data, input logs, scouting activity, contracts, and delivery/lot records. This enables cleaner audits, faster compliance documentation, and stronger identity-preserved sourcing claims for your brand.

Sustainability

What sustainability practices does Weaver follow?

Our approach includes:

  • Long-term soil stewardship and regenerative field practices
  • Crop rotation sequences that protect soil health
  • Responsible water usage is monitored at the field level
  • Reduced environmental footprint through precision agriculture
  • Long-term grower partnerships that support sustainable production

How does Weaver track and report greenhouse gas emissions?

Weaver uses the Cool Farm Tool to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions at the farm level. Cool Farm converts field practice data — including fertilizer, fuel, tillage, irrigation, and yield — into standardized GHG footprint estimates. This tool also generates water, biodiversity, and soil carbon indicators. For Weaver's partners, this creates buyer-ready sustainability data that supports Scope 3 reporting and customer sustainability requirements.

What tools does Weaver use for farm-level tracking?

Weaver uses CropTrak for end-to-end supply chain tracking. CropTrak centralizes field information, planting and spray activity, contract records, and delivery data so everything is traceable from field to buyer. It reduces reliance on scattered spreadsheets, speeds audit documentation, and improves lot-to-field traceability across all grower partners.

In the field, our growers also use field-level moisture sensors, soil analysis data, satellite imagery, and predictive analytics to make real-time decisions that protect kernel integrity.

Can I use Weaver's sustainability data to support my own reporting?

Yes. Our use of CropTrak and the Cool Farm Tool is specifically designed to generate standardized, buyer-ready data. This supports Scope 3 GHG reporting, retail and foodservice sustainability audits, and customer documentation requirements. Contact us to discuss what data is available for your supply chain disclosure needs.

Logistics & Shipping

Does Weaver ship internationally?

Yes. Weaver has supplied international markets since the 1990s and operates a global distribution network. Our logistics team manages freight optimization, export documentation, moisture and temperature-controlled shipping, container scheduling, and multi-location freight coordination. We ship to partners worldwide via container loads and export-ready packaging formats.

How does Weaver protect kernel quality during shipping?

Every packaging format is engineered to protect moisture integrity and reduce physical breakage during transit. Our logistics programs include moisture and temperature monitoring, optimized freight routing, and supply chain forecasting to avoid delays that could affect freshness. Lot certifications ship with each order so you can verify quality on receipt.

Can Weaver support year-round supply for high-volume programs?

Yes. Weaver is the world's largest popcorn kernel supplier and is built for year-round, high-volume commitments. Our supply chain includes inventory forecasting, strategic storage, and established distributor partnerships that support consistent availability across seasonal and promotional demand cycles. Whether you need steady weekly shipments or surge capacity for a product launch, we can structure a program around your needs.

Do you work with distributors or only direct buyers?

Both. Weaver sells directly to commercial buyers including CPG manufacturers, theaters, foodservice operators, and gourmet brands. We also partner with distributors who represent our kernels to their own customer base. If you are a distributor, we support you with dependable supply, clear product portfolios, quality certifications, and a reputation that is easy to sell behind.

About Weaver

How long has Weaver been in business?

Weaver Popcorn was founded in 1928 when the Weaver family planted their first popcorn fields in Indiana. Over the following century, the company grew from a small regional farm supplier to the world's largest popcorn kernel supplier. The company remains family-owned, privately held, and headquartered in Indiana across five generations.

Is Weaver a publicly traded company?

No. Weaver is privately held and family-owned. That independence matters operationally. It means decisions about quality, investment in hybrid research, grower partnerships, and sustainability commitments are made by the people who built this company, not by quarterly earnings pressures.

What makes Weaver different from other commercial kernel suppliers?

Several things set Weaver apart at a practical level:

  • Scale with consistency. We are the world's largest kernel supplier, but every lot is certified to the same standards, whether you order one pallet or a full container.
  • Hybrid science. We have been intentionally developing popcorn hybrids since the 1960s, decades before it was standard practice. That depth of genetic knowledge produces more predictable, higher-performing kernels.
  • 3% damage/FM standard. One of the strictest in the industry. Less waste, fewer complaints, better margins for our partners.
  • Field-to-buyer traceability. CropTrak documentation covers every lot from the field through delivery.
  • Global logistics infrastructure. We manage international freight, export documentation, and temperature-controlled delivery at any scale.
