What kernel types does Weaver offer?
Weaver produces four core product lines: Butterfly Kernels, Mushroom Kernels, Organic Kernels, and a range of Bulk & Commercial Formats. Within Butterfly, we offer multiple hybrid sizes, including the high-expansion Weaver Gold and Large Kernel Snack varieties. We also develop specialty hybrid recommendations based on application needs.
What is the difference between butterfly and mushroom kernels?
Butterfly kernels pop into an irregular, winged shape. They are light, airy, and high-expansion — ideal for theaters, concessions, stadiums, ready-to-eat brands, and foodservice. The wings maximize surface area for butter and savory seasonings.
Mushroom kernels pop into large, round, ball-shaped pieces. They are extremely durable and built to withstand heat, mixing, tumbling, and heavy coatings. They are the standard choice for caramel corn, chocolate drizzle, gourmet tins, and any coated product where visual uniformity matters.
Many manufacturers use both varieties — butterfly for savory applications, mushroom for coated — to support broader product lines and seasonal SKUs.
What does "high expansion" mean, and why does it matter for my business?
Expansion ratio measures how much volume one kernel produces when popped. Weaver's butterfly hybrids achieve an industry-leading expansion ratio of 45 or higher. A higher ratio means more popped volume per pound of raw kernel, which directly reduces your cost per serving and extends batch run times. How do I request a quote?
Use the quote request form on any product page or the Contact page. Tell us your kernel type, packaging format, estimated annual or monthly volume, and shipping destination. A Weaver representative will follow up to discuss pricing, availability, and program details.
Does Weaver sell retail quantities or direct to consumers?
No. Weaver is a B2B commercial supplier. We serve CPG brands, theaters, gourmet shops, foodservice operators, co-packers, and distributors. All orders are commercial and bulk. If you are looking for consumer retail bags of Weaver-branded popcorn, those are available through retail grocery and mass-market channels.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Minimum order requirements vary by product and format. Gourmet shops and smaller operations can typically start with full pallet quantities (45 bags or more). Larger commercial programs may be structured around pallet, truckload, or container minimums. Contact our team to discuss what fits your current volume and scale.
Can Weaver support private label programs?
Yes. Weaver works with private label and brand owner partners to select and engineer kernels based on the outcomes your brand needs to deliver. What is Weaver's damage and foreign material standard?
Weaver maintains a strict 3% or lower damage and foreign material (FM) allowance, which is one of the lowest in the industry. This threshold matters because weak or inconsistent kernels affect yield, flavor coating performance, visual quality, shipping integrity, and customer satisfaction. Tighter damage standards mean less waste, better margins, and fewer quality complaints downstream.
Is Weaver SQF certified?
Yes. Weaver operates SQF-certified facilities with robust quality assurance protocols. SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification is a globally recognized food safety management standard. It provides our partners with confidence in our processes and gives brand owners the audit-ready documentation their retail and foodservice customers require.
How does Weaver ensure consistency batch to batch?
Consistency starts in the field. Weaver's hybrid development program engineers kernels for predictable performance across expansion, texture, color, and durability. After harvest, kernels go through harvest timing controls, post-harvest conditioning, and a full cleaning and sorting process that includes air classification, density separation, color sorting, debris removal, and size grading. Every step removes variability before product ships.
Can I get lot-level traceability documentation?
Yes. Weaver uses CropTrak for full field-to-buyer traceability. This platform documents each crop from field to delivery to buyer records, centralizing planting data, input logs, scouting activity, contracts, and delivery/lot records. This enables cleaner audits, faster compliance documentation, and stronger identity-preserved sourcing claims for your brand.

This tool also generates water, biodiversity, and soil carbon indicators. What tools does Weaver use for farm-level tracking?
Weaver uses CropTrak for end-to-end supply chain tracking. CropTrak centralizes field information, planting and spray activity, contract records, and delivery data so everything is traceable from field to buyer. It reduces reliance on scattered spreadsheets, speeds audit documentation, and improves lot-to-field traceability across all grower partners.
In the field, our growers also use field-level moisture sensors, soil analysis data, satellite imagery, and predictive analytics to make real-time decisions that protect kernel integrity.

How long has Weaver been in business?
Weaver Popcorn was founded in 1928 when the Weaver family planted their first popcorn fields in Indiana. Over the following century, the company grew from a small regional farm supplier to the world's largest popcorn kernel supplier. The company remains family-owned, privately held, and headquartered in Indiana across five generations.
Is Weaver a publicly traded company?
No. Weaver is privately held and family-owned. That independence matters operationally. It means decisions about quality, investment in hybrid research, grower partnerships, and sustainability commitments are made by the people who built this company, not by quarterly earnings pressures.
What makes Weaver different from other commercial kernel suppliers?
